Volunteering opportunities abroad 26 Nov 2006 & 28 Jan 2007
Students Partnership Worldwide information and selection day, London, 26 Nov 2006 & 28 Jan 2007
Volunteering opportunities abroad
Student Partnerships Worldwide information day
29th September 2006
We are looking for final year students with an interest in getting into careers in development. Graduates in Development studies, anthropology, environmental science, geography might have a particular interest in getting experience on the ground through volunteering with SPW.
SPW is unique. It is a development charity working with and for young people:
· Half of our volunteers are Africans and Asians, recruited in country where we work and volunteers are placed in groups or pairs of mixed nationality in a rural community with a host family.
· Volunteers receive 4 to 6 weeks in-country training in basic development techniques, non-formal education techniques, cross-cultural awareness, life skills and local language.
· The volunteers address fundamental health and environmental issues in communities that really need their help.
· To raise awareness of these issues in an acceptable way volunteers use participatory activities such as music, sport, debating, drama and art
Volunteers find the programmes challenging, exciting and ultimately rewarding. During their time away with SPW they develop personal skills such as resourcefulness, self-confidence, team building, leadership and better communication skills that will stand them in good stead not only in the eyes of future employees but in their own lives. On top of this they gain an extraordinary insight into a very different way of life.

We are holding an information and selection day in London on 28th July and next one is on 24th September, I wondered whether it would be possible for you to advertise this information to your students or display in your careers centre. I have attached a word document giving details about this event as well as a short overview of SPW .
I look forward to hearing from you.
