Gus Subero to give Keynote at FOGO 2025
The CLCC Lecturer in Visual Cultures and Intersectional Studies will open the 2nd International Conference on Folklore & Gothic on 4th June.
Dr Gustavo 'Gus' Subero, Lecturer in Visual Cultures and Intersectional Studies at the Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication, will deliver they keynote address at the upcoming FOGO conference hosted by Morgan State University, Maryland USA.
This will be the second annual International Conference on Folklore and Gothic (FOGO) which this year focuses on the topic of "Landscapes and Territories of Horror". The conference will be held in-person and online from 4-5 June 2025.
In his keynote, Gus - who is module lead for Horizons and I-Explore modules Dynamics of Imagery in Arts & Design and Visual Culture, Knowledge and Power - will discuss "Queer Territories and Abject Motherhood in Huesera (2023): Reimagining Patriarchal Landscapes of Horror".
With over 20 years' experience in Higher Education, Gus's work focuses on the intersections of visual culture, identity, and power, with particular attention to how cultural production constructs and contests identities related to sexuality, gender, and race. His current research focuses on the intersection of horror studies and queer theory, making FOGO 2025 an ideal conference for him to headline.
