Department of Materials celebrates postgraduate prize winners

The Department of Materials celebrated their latest postgraduate prize winners at Graduation Day on Tuesday 3 June 2025.
PhD Prize Winners
Dr Schan Dissanayake-Perera: The Larry Hench Biomaterials Prize
Schan Dissanayake-Perera has been awarded The Larry Hench Biomaterials Prize. The prize recognises excellence in a PhD in a Biomaterials-related subject.
Dr Jessica Tjandra: Prize in Advanced Materials Characterization Techniques
Jessica Tjandra has been awarded the Prize in Advanced Materials Characterisation Techniques. The prize recognises the best postgraduate research student using advanced materials characterisation techniques leading to a higher degree; the prize to be awarded at the end of postgraduate study.
Dr Kaili Chen: McLean Medal
Kaili Chen has been awarded the McLean Medal. The prize recognises the postgraduate student with the best accepted or published journal paper.
Dr Yidong Han: Tony Evans Memorial Prize
Yidong Han has been awarded the Tony Evans Memorial Prize. The prize recognises a student with the best PhD Thesis in the ceramics discipline, as determined by the Director of the Structural Ceramics Centre based on the examiners’ report.
Dr Gabriel Krenzer: The TYC@Imperial Prize
Gabriel Krenzer has been awarded the TYC@Imperial prize. The prize recognises a student who has demonstrated the most important and innovative contribution to research in the Theory and Simulation of Materials.
Dr Kuan-Cheng (Louis) Chen: Matthey Prize
Khan-Cheng (Louis) Chen has been awarded the Matthey Prize. The prize is awarded to an Associate of the Royal School of Mines for research completed in the Department of Materials.
Dr Cynthia Roderkinchen: Constance Fligg Tipper Centenary Memorial Prize
Cynthia Roderkinchen has been awarded the Constance Fligg Tipper Centenary Memorial Prize. The prize recognises a completing PhDstudent showing most industry and independence in research with outstanding contributions to Materials Science and Engineering.
MSc Prize Winners
Oluwafemi Oladosu: MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering - Excellence in Responsibility for Sustainable Research
Oluwafemi Olados has been awarded the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering - Excellence in Responsibility for Sustainable Research prize. This prize recognises a student who is able to show sustainable behaviour and practice in their research project on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering Course.
Jinho Lee: William Penney Prize (Best Energy Theme Project) on MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering course
Jinho Lee has been awarded the William Penney Prize (Best Energy Theme Project) on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering. This prize recognises the student producing the best energy theme project on the MSc Advanced Materials Science and Engineering Course.
