Year 10 Taster Days 2025

School groups of Year 10 students were invited to enjoy a taster lecture, tours of the department and a practical session in the lab.

Last week the Chemistry department hosted 120 students across two days, treating them to a taster lecture, guided tours of the campus and department, and a hands-on practical session in the lab.

The day began with an introduction to studying chemistry at Imperial, along with a taster lecture presented by Dr Rebecca Jones and Dr Ravi Singh.

Following the lectures, our student ambassadors took the visitors on tours around the South Kensington campus and the department. The guests expressed how much they enjoyed meeting the current students and getting a better understanding of life at Imperial.

Finally, Dr Jones and Dr Singh hosted a practical session in the lab. The students raved about their time participating in the activity, it was undoubtedly the favourite part of the day! One teacher said “The lab experience was terrific. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it gave them a great insight to what it is like to study chemistry at university”.

One parent said “X was absolutely delighted to be part of the event and truly enjoyed gaining insights into laboratory work and learning more about the subject. In particular, she was very excited about the aspirin lab experiment she took part in — it really sparked her interest and curiosity in chemistry even further. She has already started thinking about the possibility of studying at Imperial College in the future”.

Overall, the Year 10 Taster Days were a great success. We are now looking forward to the Year 12 Taster Days taking place in September. Please check out our Outreach page to keep up to date with upcoming events.
