Sir Arthur Acland and President's Prizes 2024-25

Five CLCC undergraduates have been awarded prizes for their work this academic year.

Congratulations to the following students who have successfully been awarded prizes by the CLCC undergraduate examination boards for 2024-2025:

The Sir Arthur Acland Prize for Excellence in Humanities (joint winners):

  • Emilia Mackenzie (4th Year Aeronautical Engineering), Change Makers Independent Project, for her project ‘The Technology Paradox’.
  • Mansi Patel (3rd Year Physics), Politics, for her essay ‘Has the rise of digital technology created a more democratic or more technocratic-authoritarian society?’

The Sir Arthur Acland Prize for Excellence in Languages (joint winners): 

  • Isaac Sanders (4th Year Chemistry with a Language for Science), German Level 6.

One of the last two students on the Chemistry with a Language for Science programme (which has now been discontinued) and an outstanding representation of the programme. Isaac is clearly interested in the history of the German language and an ambassador for language study.

  • Kevin Cheng (4th Year Chemical Engineering), Japanese level 4

Home grown talent, starting from Horizons Level 1 in Year 1. The most hardworking student in his Level 2 class the following year, having never missed any classes. Kevin skipped from level 2 to 4 after independent study and was awarded a distinction all 3 years. He also won 2nd prize in the Japanese Speech Contest 2025.

The President’s Prize for Science Communication

  • Sasha Burina-Ling (3rd Year Biological Sciences) for achieving an overall score of 76% for Horizons module Science Communication.

A large number of students were shortlisted for the prizes this year and the standard of work was excellent. The following Languages students were highly commended: Fayowa Adesomoju (2nd Year Medicine), British Sign Language Level 1; Dia Ajmera (3rd Year Medicine), British Sign Language Level 2; Lilia Smith (5th Year Biotechnology with Spanish for Science ), Spanish Level 6; Hamish Starling (4th Year Computing (International Programme)), French Level 6.
