Professor David Southwood has been awarded the Council of European Aerospace Societies 2007 Gold Medal in recognition of his 'outstanding contribution to Europe's space programmes that have allowed Europe to become a world player in space exploration'.

David is currently Director of Science at the European Space Agency, having previously been Head of Department at the Blackett Laboratory (1994-1997).
