Mrs Frances M. Lochhead (1947)
Provided by Mrs Catherine Hayden
Frances attended Wye College and was awarded the Swanley Diploma in horticulture in 1947.
My mother enjoyed her time at Wye. She made some lifelong friends there, including Catherine Hensman (nee David), Chris Trollope and Barbara Chapman. (Sorry- I do not remember their maiden names.)
She taught horticulture and science at Neath,Wales. (I believe at the grammar school) until shortly before her marriage in 1953.
She maintained a great interest in horticulture throughout her life and was a fount of knowledge regarding plants and their care. Even when she could no longer maintain her garden herself , she would go outside to give her gardener some advice when he or she came! She enjoyed belonging to the local alpine society. She very much enjoyed gardening programmes on the radio and T.V. in her later years.
My mother is greatly missed by her family- myself, my husband and our three children.
