Dr Stephen Norton, Senior Partner in the Framlingham Medical Practice until he retired 15 months ago, died having been suddenly taken ill at home.

Dr Norton had been with the Practice for 34 years and, despite retiring, continued to provide Locum cover in the days leading up to his unexpected death.

His clinical skills and knowledge, combined with his natural wit and humour, made him hugely popular with the patients; in fact his devotion to Framlingham was such that he often went above and beyond the call of duty. As Senior Partner he was an excellent leader and was instrumental in developing the Practice as it expanded from three GPs and a couple of receptionists working from a small surgery in Fore Street to the modern purpose-built surgery now run by six GPs and a team of 30 employees.

He was not afraid to embrace the changes necessary to keep the Practice up-to-date in line with NHS developments. He was a truly inspirational leader in the Practice.

He was also very active in the local community and was well respected and loved by those who knew him, either as a patient or as a friend.
