SOCIETY OF YOUNG PUBLISHERS (SYP): Getting Ahead In UK Publishing - Tuesday 15 April 2008

SYP Seminar at London Book Fair...

Whether you're from the UK or abroad, kickstarting a career in publishing is a formidable challenge - the myriad of courses and advice on offer is often conflicting. This session is for those just starting or early on in their careers, and seeks to address issues including:

- Are Publishing MAs the golden ticket to a publishing career?
- Getting a foot in the door... and how to switch career paths later on
- Training courses – which ones are best for your development
- Publishing salaries, are they fair at any level?

Our expert panel of speakers will pour their vast experience and advice into this essential discussion for anyone serious about getting ahead in UK publishing.

Location: Marlborough Rooms 1 & 2, Level 1, Earl's Court Exhibition Centre. 

The panel will start promptly at 5pm and places are limited, so please arrive in plenty of time. Feel free to stay for drinks afterwards, from 6pm-7.30pm, after which please join us as we move on to a nearby drinking-hole - The Tournament Pub - from 7.30pm  (344-346 Old Brompton Road, SW5 9JU).

JFL consultants will be on hand after the event to offer advice and information. Copies of How to Get a Job in Publishing (published A&C Black, £9.99) will also be on sale at the event, and visitors will receive a £2 discount.

Don't forget - Students can attend the London Book Fair for free! All you need to do is pre-register via the following online form by selecting 'student' in the 'Job Title' and 'Company Activity' boxes. This is the pre-registration form for all visitors, so remember to ignore or unclick boxes referring to credit card payment. Please note that students will only have free access to the London Book Fair via pre-registration - students will be charged £35 for entry if they have not pre-registered.
