Mr George R. Hallowes (MSc, 1972)

George spent his childhood in ireland, and his school years at Highfield and Shrewsbury.
He read civil engineering at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 1961. He joined Binnie Deacon and Gourley in Wstminster in 1961 and worked in Scotland iraq and Lesotho, before returning to the UKi n 1971 to spend a year at Imperial College acquiring a Masters Degree in soil mechanics.
Subsequent work, included High Island and Discovery Bay in Hong Kong, Poechos in Peru, Kalabagh dam project and Mangla dam in Pakistan, and Adhaim and Derbendikan dams in Iraq. He was deeply involved in the Bombay sewerage project.
George remained with "Binnies" until 2000 when he set up his own consultancy business. He spent the next 6 years on the All Reservoirs Panel of engineers, inspecting reservoirs all over Britain and the Outer Isles.
He had an encyclopaedic knowledge, and a wide range of interests, including rowing, singing, and family life. His last year was spent battling cancer, and he died at home in October 2007, survived by his wife, and two daughters.
