The Department is greatly saddened to learn of the death of Dr Vadim Lebedenko.
Dr Lebedenko worked within the Dark Matter team led by Professor Tim Sumner and was responsible for building the ZEPLIN-III detector, including the concept design, its manufacturing, testing and operation. ZEPLIN-III is the most advanced instrument of its kind in the world and Vadim was absolutely key to its successful development. Currently the instrument is taking science data in the underground laboratory at Boulby, near Whitby.
Tim Sumner commented âIn a years time it will be delivering the best data in the world in the search for the missing matter in the Universe. As such this is one of the most important experiments in the world and it will be a fitting tribute to Vadim, and an honour for us, to be able to publish its results in his name. We have lost a close colleague and a superb scientistâ.
The Department offers its condolences to Vadimâs family, colleagues and friends
