New Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering
Eight Imperial alumni are announced as new Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Professor John Loughhead (Mechanical Engineering 1970, MSc 1971, PhD 1975), leader of the Imperial-based UK Energy Research Centre, was among eight alumni elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering on 7 July 2008.
New Fellows also included Executive Director of Imperial's Energy Futures Lab Professor Nigel Brandon (PhD Earth Science and Engineering 1985), and the Department of Computing's Professor Jeffrey Kramer (MSc Computing 1972, PhD 1976)
Dr Charles Davies (Physics 1975, PhD 1978), Dr Franz Durst (MSc Mechanical Engineering 1968, PhD 1972), Professor David Owens (Physics 1969, PhD 1973), Stephen Payne (Chemistry 1979), and Ian Shott (Chemical Engineering 1978) were similarily recognised.
Three additional Imperial College staff members were also elected. Professor Christofer Toumazou, Executive Director of Institute of Biomedical Engineering, was awarded a Fellowship, while Sir Gordon Conway, Professor of International Development in the Centre for Environmental Policy, and Professor of Science and Society Lord Robert Winston were awarded Honorary Fellowships.
Election to the Fellowships of the Royal Academy of Engineering honours the UK’s most distinguished engineers. The new elections bring the total number of Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering at Imperial to 74.
