Civil Service Fast Stream: Technology in Business
Our new Technology in Business Fast Stream will provide our next generation of IT leaders: women and men capable of facilitating positive, large–scale business change in the public sector.
The Government Technology in Business Fast Stream application process is currently open for registration, and will close on 30 November 2007. Please note that while this scheme is technology focused applicants do not require an IT degree to take part.
As you will know the Fast Stream is a graduate entry route for senior Civil Service careers. The Technology in Business Fast Stream is a specialised entry route for future leaders of IT–enabled business change. Technology in Business Fast Stream can be applied for by graduates in addition to the general Fast Stream route.
The Scheme:
Our new Technology in Business Fast Stream will provide our next generation of IT leaders: women and men capable of facilitating positive, large–scale business change in the public sector. These specialists will use technology to modernise delivery and bring improvements across the country in healthcare, education, employment, democracy, justice and transport.
Successful applicants are placed in a variety of government departments and provided with a structured programme of placements, extensive IT and management training, networking opportunities, and mentoring and support from senior IT leaders.
Our Requirements:
General Fast Stream applicants are required to have a 2:2, however IT Professional applicants must have a 2:1 or above, or a post–graduate degree, in one of the following:
- Business
- Engineering
- Librarianship
- Mathematical Science
- Physical Sciences
- Technology
- IT Management for Business
- Or a combined degree where at least 50% of modules have been in one of these disciplines
Applicants must also be British nationals.
We are looking for women and men from diverse backgrounds that are excellent communicators and able to seamlessly interact with a range of people from policy specialists, members of the public, media professionals to senior politicians.
Salary and Benefits:
Successful applicants may be placed in a variety of government departments and will be given extensive training in the necessary IT and managerial skills. Salary and benefits include:
- A current median starting salary in London is £24,500 with significant additional IT allowances provided by some departments
- Annual performance related pay increases
- High performing candidates can be promoted within 3 years
- Current salaries on promotion are around £39,000
- Typically holiday entitlements start at 25 days, plus 10.5 public holidays
- Other benefits may include season ticket loans and access to a range of sports and social facilities
- Family friendly benefits, including flexible working hours, part-time work, job sharing and career breaks are widely available
- Many departments also offer crèches, holiday play schemes and childcare assistance
