QED CONSULTING: UK Bio-Entrepreneur School - Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 March 2009

Developing the next generation of Bio-Entrepreneurs.

Bio/medical scientists and Biotechnology developers who would like to develop an entrepreneurial career or whose science, product or service may show commercial potential are being invited to apply for 30 fully-funded places on the 2009 Bio-Entrepreneur School hosted by BioCity Nottingham.

We are also offering paid places for people who are already employed as researchers or managers in well-established businesses to help develop their entrepreneurial careers and prepare for innovation and growth.

The School, which is now in its third year, takes place from 10 to 12 March 2009 and is delivered by QED Consulting. Funding is provided by the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) through the Greater Nottingham Partnership, with sponsors including patent experts Adamson Jones, accountants PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Nottingham City Council, UKTI, Nelsons, La Playa, and Connect Midlands.

Anyone interested in applying should visit www.bioentrepreneur.co.uk and submit their details as soon as possible. The first selection of delegates will take place in December 2008. The deadline for applications is 12th February 2009.

Bio-Entrepreneur School is open to anyone who is interested in commercialisation and in developing their business understanding and entrepreneurial skills, especially:

  • Recent graduates or post-docs
  • Academic Researchers
  • People working in industry, including pharma
  • People working in a small business

It is ideal for people who:

  • Are interested in business, or
  • Are planning to commercialise their bio-related idea, or
  • Have just started a business in the sector, or
  • Work in the sector and are looking for professional development

The School distinguishes itself from mainstream start-up and investment readiness support through its strong focus on developing entrepreneurial potential as well as exploring the viability of ideas. It is delivered by seasoned entrepreneurs and business professionals and will help delegates improve their commercial awareness, look at research from a commercial angle, develop business skills, and introduce them to like-minded peers who will be able to support them well into the future.

Delegates who attended the 2008 Bio-Entrepreneur School described it as:

  • A great opportunity to test the bio-entrepreneurial water and speak to like-minded individuals
  • Essential to enhance knowledge for budding entrepreneurs
  • Great experience with plenty of opportunities to network
  • Extremely good if you are just venturing and looking at the business sides for the first time.  Equally good if you have already done this, but need to review it
  • If you don’t know a lot about business, GO TO THIS!
  • Worth attending, it will change your life
  • Mind opening; helps clarify vision into the business environment.  Plenty of opportunity to do “networking”.  Very friendly people who sacrificed their time to help build others up
