OXFORD UNIVERSITY: Life Sciences Interface and Systems Biology DTC Open Day - Wednesday 26 November 2008
Life Sciences Interface & Systems Biology Doctoral Training Centres.
Wednesday 26th November
2.00pm
e-Science Building, 7 Keble Road, Oxford
The modern biomedical sciences present many exciting and stimulating challenges for researchers from both physical and life sciences backgrounds, and there is a substantial and growing demand in the public and private sector for doctoral graduates in these areas. The DTC is a dynamic initiative to provide research training at this interface between the physical and life sciences.
Both training programmes are of four-years duration and lead to a DPhil qualification. In the first year, students undertake a series of taught modules providing them with the key knowledge and skills needed to work within either the life sciences interface or in systems biology. During this first year students will also take a hands-on approach with two 11 week projects or laboratory rotations. The following three years will be spent undertaking a substantive research project in one of the related areas leading to the DPhil qualification.
Research work is carried out in a range of areas depending on which DTC students are registered on:
- LSI
- Biophysics
- Bioinformatics, Evolution and Genomics
- Computational Biology
- Medical Images and Signals
- Sys Bio
- Bacterial Sensory Networks
- Regulation of CDK Pathways in model organisms
- Cellular Hypoxia
- Physiome Modelling
If you are interested in attending this event, which provides an extremely valuable insight into the Doctoral Training Centre and gives you the opportunity to talk to staff and current students, please contact the Academic Administrator (see details below) to register.
