Professor Nigel Graham visited the Ecole Superieure D’Ingenieurs de Poitiers of the University of Poitiers (UoP), France, on the 12/13th November to take part in a PhD examination of a thesis entitled, “Formation of Iodinated Organic Compounds Catalysed by Manganese Oxides”. During his visit, he gave a seminar to Masters and Doctoral students on new research areas in water and wastewater treatment, and discussed the possibilities for short term visits by UoP students to Imperial College. Earlier in the month, on the 4th November, Professor Graham was the external examiner for a PhD thesis at the University of Cambridge entitled, “A Practical Methodology for Assessing the Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Water Treatment Operations”.


Professor Cedo MaksimovicProf Maksimovic has been invited by the organisers of the special Seminar in Sao Paulo Brazil to present an invited lecture on International aspects on Advances in  Urban Drainage. The Seminar will be held on 2nd and 3rd December 2008 on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of implementation of the Master Drainage Plan of the Upper Tiete river. Prof Maksimovic was involved in development of the Master Plan as an invited international expert.


Welcome to Mr Li-pen Wang has joined the Urban Water Research Group as a new PhD student supported by the National Research Council of Taiwan.  His topic include advanced rainfall analysis and short term rainfall prediction for urban flood now casting. He will be co supervised by Prof. Cedo Maksimovic and Dr Christian Onof.


Preparations have started for setting-up an experimental site in the Redbridge area (Roding river catchments in the East London) on  urban rainfall and runoff monitoring for urban flood forecast. The research programme is a part of the FRMRC2 (EPSRC) project.
Involved in the project are:
a. Prof Cedo Maksimovic, general project coordination
b. Dr Ivan Stoianov, wireless data acquisition and transmission network
c. Joao Leitho, rainfall-runoff monitoring
d. Nuno Simoes, flood forecast
e. Li-pen Wang, rainfall analysis and forecast.
