Mr Robert J. Weeks (Electrical Engineering 1957, DIC 1958)

Provided by Mr Brian Dean

Bob was a mature student starting at City and Guilds in the second year of my electrical engineering degree course in 1955.  He was a shift charge engineer at Huddersfield power station and gained a scholarship from the CEGB.  Like me, he became a postgraduate student on the first Nuclear Power DIC course in 1957/58 under Professor John Kay. That was the year of the Windscale (Sellafield) Accident and I understand that one of Bob's sons is now involved in the decommissioning on the site.

Following his DIC, Bob was immediately appointed as Nuclear Operations Engineer for the CEGB.  He then became the Station Manager at one of the first nuclear power stations at Bradwell in Essex and went on to become the Director of Generation for the CEGB.  He retired at the time of privatisation of the electricity industry in 1990/91.

He leaves a family of four boys, a daughter and twelve grandchildren.
