I am sorry to say that Arthur passed away on Saturday evening, March 18 2006, at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton. He was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia almost four years ago and had been attending the Bud Flanagon Outpatients at the Marsden for blood transfusions ever since. He had transfusions every two weeks and remained stable until recently. He had become considerably frailer over the past year, suffering several bad falls.

After a particularly nasty fall before Christmas 2005 he was just regaining strength when he contracted Gastroenteritis which weakened him to such an extent that the Myelodysplasia rapidly progressed and he lost his fight after four weeks in hospital.

He had a very full life almost to the end, enjoying his boats, greenhouses and family. He would have been 80 in July this year and only fully retired last year, the day after his 79th birthday! He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
