News of an international accolade for scholarship in the field of innovation management.

Dr Ammon SalterInternational Association of Management of Technology (IAMOT), a research network, has recognised Dr Ammon Salter as one of the most influential scholars in his field.

The award places Dr Salter in the top 50 in his field based on quantitative analysis of research published between 2003 and 2007.  On the award Dr Salter said:

“It’s great to be recognised by your peers as making a contribution to one’s field.  Since coming to Imperial in 2003, I have had the privilege of working in a dynamic and collegial team and to work closely with innovative organisations, such as Arup. There is no better place to work to learn about new and more effective ways of managing innovation than Imperial.”

Dr Salter is a reader in innovation management in the business school’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship group and co-director of the Innovation Studies Centre.  He is also a Fellow of the Advanced Institute of Management Research and will become the director of research at the new UK Innovation Research Centre – a national collaborative project between the University of Cambridge and Imperial College Business School, which is due to begin work in January.

Dr Salter's main research interest is the management of technological innovation, examining how organisations can harness external networks to help innovate more successfully. He has recently published a textbook called The Management of Technological Innovation: Strategy and Practice (with M. Dodgson and D. Gann).

Dr Salter research has benefited from financial support from the EPSRC and ESRC – two UK research councils. He is currently working on two research council-funded projects.  One examines how firm’s best resolve the tension between openness and value capture in their innovative activities and second exploring the changing pattern of exchange between universities and industry in the UK.  A report on this project is due to be released in January.
