EPSRC Doctoral Training Centres at Imperial College
New DTCs announced
The EPSRC announced on December 5th 2008 that Imperial College were awarded three new Doctoral Training Centres (DTCs) to meet the national and international need for able physical scientists and engineers with advanced skills on one of three subjects. The EPSRC have made an investment of over £6M towards each of these Centres. The DTC is a new way of doing your PhD because postgraduate research will be funded for a full 4 years, and will include extra training in the core principles of the field predominantly in the first year of study. The three new Centres will each have a stand alone Masters element in each of the core areas
The Centres will focus on:
- The Science and Application of Plastic Electronic Materials - Director Professor Jenny Nelson,
- The Theory and Simulation of Materials - Director Professor Adrian Sutton, FRS
- Controlled Quantum Dynamics - Director Professor Martin Plenio.
The Plastic Electronics Centre involves close collaboration with Chemistry and Materials Departments at College and with Materials scientists at Queen Mary, University of London. The TSM Centre involves close collaboration with Materials, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemistry Departments at College.
