Event Report - Bay Area Christmas Dinner
Members of the Imperial College Alumni Association of Northern California (ICAANC) met on Saturday 6 December 2008 for their Annual General Meeting followed by a Christmas Dinner in Mountain View, California.
In total, thirty alumni and their partners gathered at the Amarin Thai Cuisine restaurant for the event. Attendees included an alumnus who broke the group’s record as ‘the oldest graduate’, having graduated in 1941, and two alumni who travelled from as far afield as Los Angeles.
During the AGM, Ella Shum (Computing 1981) was elected as the group’s new president. The committee also welcomed aboard three new members: Fabien Schmitt (Mechanical Engineering 2000), Shalabh Agarwal (Electrical and Electronic Engineering 1993) and Parvinder Dhillon (Electrical Engineering 1977, PhD 1981). Congratulations to all!
An enlightening talk was also delivered by Dr Robert Walker, Principal at Sierra Ventures, entitled The Lighting Revolution – from Vacuum Tube to Semiconductor again, which explored the boundaries of energy efficient and cost effective lighting. The presentation was very well received resulting in a flurry of questions and discussions, which left alumni with plenty of food for thought.
The event was hailed a success, and provided an opportunity for people who have never attended an Imperial College function before to be reconnected with fellow alumni.
