‘THE BIG BANG’ Simon Singh Lecture and Reception – November 9 2004
The Big Bang – a lecture by Dr Simon Singh: author, journalist and TV producer specialising in science and maths.
Around 100 alumni, Friends, supporters and staff of Imperial College attended a lecture given by Dr Simon Singh on Tuesday 9 November.
Held in the new Tanaka Business School, 108 guests filled the lecture room to capacity and were enthralled as Dr Singh delivered an informative and often highly amusing perspective on Big Bang theory based on his latest book, Big Bang, which explores the theory that the universe was created by random chance.
The lecture went with a as Dr Singh demonstrated how wavelengths produce different colours depending on their energy levels by sending a 240v current through a gherkin turning it yellow in the process! The lecture ended with a question and answer session where the more esoteric audience members asked complex questions. As one satisfied customer summed up, had you been a child in the lecture theatre, you would have wanted to be an astro physicist when you grew up!
A drinks reception followed where guests were able to purchase a range of Dr Singh's books and have them signed by the author himself. A percentage of the book sales will be donated to the Student Opportunities Fund
