International Ambassador met with alumni on Monday 22 June 2009 in Chicago

Twenty-five alumni and guests enjoyed an evening with International Ambassador, Professor Dot Griffiths on Monday 22 June 2009 at Trattoria No.10 restaurant in downtown Chicago.

The event kicked off with Professor Griffiths giving a presentation on life today at Imperial and many alumni were glad to see some of the physical improvements made to the South Kensington Campus since their student days. Some people were also surprised to see how many alumni were scattered across the Mid West.

A three-course Italian meal followed the presentation, which gave alumni the opportunity to recount their memorable moments at Imperial such as the hours spent at the Southside Bar after lectures. Even though the Southside was demolished in October 2005, alumni were reassured to hear that the Union Bar is as popular a haunt for current students as the Southside was for them.

Cathy Morley (Civil Engineering 1973) offered to show one of the College’s mascots, Ted, the sights of Chicago and we very much look forward to seeing the photos! Photos of the Ambassador event will also be uploaded on the website shortly.

Following the event there was plenty of interest in establishing an alumni network in the region  and plans are already underway for the next event due to take place in August.

Our thanks to all alumni for attending this wonderful evening especially to John Head without whom this alumni event would not have been possible.
