A visit to the Grantham Institute on 7th July 2009 was one of the highlights of a London climate camp attended by twenty 16-18 year olds from across Europe.

The Grantham Institute hosted a visit from 20 British Council climate change champions on 7th July as part of a climate camp held in London.

The International Climate Champions project is run by the British Council and identifies and trains talented young people to communicate climate change issues to their peers, the public and key decision-makers, encouraging positive action on climate change to be taken.

As part of this initiative, 20 champions from France, Italy and Germany attended a London climate camp on 4-7 July to increase their knowledge of climate change and improve their skills in communicating and raising awareness of climate related issues.

The visit to the Grantham Institute was one of the highlights of the camp, with Professor Sir Brian Hoskins providing them with an overview of climate change research in the UK. Three of the Institute's staff then introduced the teenagers to the exciting research happening at the Grantham Institute, with Dr Greg Offer talking about the Racing Green project, followed by Dr Colin Turnbull explaining his research into producing liquid fuel from plants and Rahul Bose presenting on using photovoltaics to harness solar energy.
