Employment prospects for Imperial graduates in 2008 remained buoyant, according to the latest figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

Performance indicators released today (Thursday 16 July 2009) show that 93.9% of College leavers were in employment or full-time study six months after graduation, a small rise on the 2007 figure of 93.5%. This compares to the national figure of 91%.

Elspeth Farrar, Director of Imperial's Careers Advisory Service, says:

"There is naturally an increased level of anxiety about post-graduation job prospects in today's climate, but we have a lot of evidence that Imperial graduates are still in demand by a range of employers, who know that their future success depends on attracting talented new employees.

"The Careers Advisory Service is open to all students and recent graduates, and my advice to anyone who has concerns is to come in and talk through all their opportunities with an expert. Tough economic conditions don't last forever, and it's important to consider your longer-term ambitions alongside your more immediate options."

The HESA employment indicator refers to leavers obtaining first degrees from full-time courses, with data taken from the Destination of Leaders in Higher Education survey.
