Mr Sidney T. Flannery (Electrical and Electronic Engineering 1940)

Sidney Thomas Flannery spent his boyhood in London and, after leaving school, studied Engineering at the Hackney Technical Institute. His successful studies enabled him to go to Imperial College London where he obtained a First Class Honours degree in Electrical Engineering. At the outbreak of World War 2 he joined the Admiralty and his career thereafter remained in the admiralty with postings in Malta, Singapore, Portsmouth, Bath and Rosyth in Scotland. From 1971 to 1973 he was appointed head of the Royal Naval Engineering Service. His last post was Director of Manpower and Productivity for the Ministry of Defence. He retired in 1975. He died in a road traffic accident in February 2007 and his family have made a donation to the Imperial Racing Green Project in his memory.
