Wheels set in motion for new alumni association in USA
Imperial alumni launch new group with Ambassador Professor Gerry George in Chicago
For the 342 Imperial alumni based in the Midwest, keeping in touch with their alma mater and fellow alumni has just got easier through the creation of a new alumni association: the Imperial College Alumni Association of Chicago. This is the third official Imperial College alumni association to form in the States, with the others based in northern California and in the northeast of the country. Professor George commended the group’s enthusiasm and support for establishing the new alumni network. He highlighted the benefits of alumni associations as being great networking and social opportunities and stressed that the real challenge is to ensure the association remains active and useful to its members. We wish the Imperial College Alumni Association of Chicago the best of luck and continual success in their future endeavours!
Alumni celebrated the official launch of the association on Tuesday 11 August 2009 at the Italian restaurant Trattoria No.10, in the city’s downtown area, with International Ambassador Professor Gerry George.
Discussion focused largely around setting objectives for the group as well as establishing an events calendar. The next event is due to take place in January 2010 with a possible visit to an underground stone mine... so for the meantime, watch this space!
A special thanks to Jennifer Beall (Chemistry 1996) and John Head (Mining and Mineral Technology 1970) who have been instrumental in organising this event and for helping launch this new network.
