Dr Michael Templeton, Prof Nigel Graham, and Dr Nick Voulvoulis were Guest Editors of a special Theme Issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society
Dr Michael Templeton, Prof Nigel Graham, and Dr Nick Voulvoulis were Guest Editors of a special Theme Issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A (Vol 367, pp 3871-4137) on emerging chemical contaminants in water and wastewater. The issue draws together review papers from international experts in relevant disciplines (environmental engineering, epidemiology, risk assessment, environmental chemistry/science) to present the state-of-the-art understanding regarding a range of emerging chemical contaminants.
Congratulations to Ana Mijic a Hydrology MSc student (08-09) who was awarded joint first place in the Letitia Chitty Centerary Memorial Prize for the best overall MSc student in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. She shares the prize money of £250.00 with Chris Walker of General Structures.
The EPSRC funded DIAMOND Consortium held their first conference on ‘Decommissioning, immobilisation and management of nuclear wastes for disposal' on the 9th and10th September 2009 at the National Railway Museum in York. The conference was attended by all the PhD students funded by the Consortium and this included Tingting Zhang and Carsten Kunzel who presented the posters attached on their work to date.
Professor Howard Wheater and Dr Neil McIntyre were at the International Court of Justice in the Hague from 14 Sept- 2 Oct, as scientific experts for the Government of Argentina in the case concerning alleged pollution of the River Uruguay by pulp mill effluents. The case proceedings can be read on the ICJ website.
