New Public Health Research Centres of Excellence announced with a new investment of £20m

The UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) have announced plans for the creation of up to
five 'Centres of Excellence' designed to strength public health research in the UK and to bring
together leading experts from a range of disciplines to tackle complex health issues, such as
obesity and smoking that are likely to have a significant impact on the health of the nation.

A new investment of £20 million to establish the Centres of Excellence has been committed by a
partnership of funders, including the Department of Health. The Centre of Excellence awards will
be made on a competitive basis and provide funding for research infrastructure, new academic
posts and training programmes, including studentships.
