Ambassador visit to Shanghai - event report
International Ambassadors, alumni and EMBA students attend cocktail reception in Shanghai
Over 40 alumni and EMBA students attended an evening drinks reception with Professor Dot Griffiths, Deputy Principal of Imperial College Business School, and Ebrahim Mohamed, Director of Imperial’s Executive MBA Programme at the Radisson New World Shanghai Hotel on Thursday 24 September 2009.
To kick off the evening, Professor Griffiths gave an opening speech and presentation on life today at Imperial College London. She highlighted the remarkable success made by the College and the Business School in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise and its ranking as sixth best university in the world, which as of October 2009 has risen to 5th place. Following the presentation, guests were invited to mingle over a selection of cocktails.
The EMBA study tour provides students with the opportunity to gain a cultural understanding of China – in both a business and historical context – and gives them the chance to meet and exchange ideas with alumni based in the region. Vivian Wu (Business School 2006), Coordinator for the Imperial College Alumni Association of China – Shanghai branch, welcomes this type of interaction: “It helps EMBA students gain an understanding of the Chinese market from a local industry expert’s point of view and in turn helps alumni gain insight of the EMBA experience and the values that accompany it.”
Next year will see the launch of the first alumni study tour programme; to celebrate, a special rate is being offered to alumni and Imperial staff participants. If you are interested in taking part and would like further information please visit www.imperial.ac.uk/business-school/alumni.
