A new branch of Abbey National has opened on campus, catering to staff and students

A new branch of Abbey has opened at the South Kensington Campus of Imperial College London.

Officially opened by Imperial‘s Rector, Sir Roy Anderson, on 12 October 2009, the branch will serve the needs of Imperial’s staff and students, by providing an accessible, friendly banking service at the heart of the Campus. In attendance at the official opening along with Sir Roy were Luis Juste, Director, UK, Latin America and Portugal for Santander Universities and Judy Beard, Imperial’s Director of Development.

Imperial has recently become part of the Santander Universities Network, a European Universities Network created in 1992 to encourage contacts between universities and their surrounding communities or regions on matters related to social and technological development. The network provides scholarships and support to its member universities,

“We are very pleased to have a partner that recognises the central role education plays in the development and prosperity of nations,” commented Sir Roy. “The international mobility that the Santander network promotes is extremely important to building friendships and understanding between countries. Higher education is increasingly a global activity and students will travel to access the kind of education that will benefit them the most”

“I’m particularly pleased that our partnership with Santander places a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship because translating scientific knowledge into usable technologies will be vital to solving the acute challenges of the coming decades”
