Alumni Association of Western Australia - alumni event
Alumni Association of Western Australia held an event on Saturday 17 June 2006.
Alumni and partners totalling twenty five met recently (17 June 2006) at the K's Restaurant in Northbridge, Perth, for a convivial meal. The restaurant is quite small so we took it over completely for the evening. We had most of our regulars attending, though some were absent either due to ill health or away in Europe on holiday. The State Governor, Ken Michael (PhD Civ Eng) also sent his apologies.
It is strange how the word can spread! I met an alumnus (Stephen Smith) while out for lunch with another group and we just happened to be chatting and realised we had both been to Imperial College. One new alumnus (Patrick Bruce) contacted us because he had seen an article in Imperial Matters. Yet another alumnus was discovered on the 'Friends Reunited' web site, I'd known Paul Wilkes for over 20 years on a casual industry networking basis, but had never realised he too was an alumnus. All three of these alumni, plus Paul's wife Margaret, attended our dinner for the first time, and I'm sure enjoyed themselves.
We had an excellent meal at the reasonable price of $40 (16 pds) per head and the restaurant allowed us to bring our own wine, thus for a 19.00 to 23.00 event I don't think one could have a better time. It was a multi course meal, starting with a very interesting potato soup served in individual bowls with a pastry crust sealing in the soup. The entrees were smoked salmon and green salad, followed by prawn crepes, and then by thinly sliced tuna with wasabi. There were six choices of main course, I enjoyed the marinated beef fillet, the rack of lamb looked good and the duck was beautifully arranged, very flavoursome without the grease normally associated with duck exquisite!
The evening was rounded off with a choice of deserts, tea and coffee. Geoff Smith (Civ Eng PG 1968) supplied a bottle of 1992 Coorinja Vintage Port for us all to share.
Peter Rowe (Mech Eng in the 50's) brought along copies of an old print of the City and Guilds building, for anyone who was interested we revelled in telling him that we had never seen it as we were so much younger than him.
A good evening was had by all and it was resolved not to leave it quite so long between these functions.
