Annual Fund Telethon campaign is one in a million!
A student caller in action
Thanks to the hard work of student callers and the generosity of alumni and friends of the College, the total raised by the Annual Fund telethon campaigns has reached £1,000,000
Donations to the twice yearly telethon fundraising campaign for the College’s Annual Fund have passed the £1 million pound mark. This landmark was reached during week 5 of the telethon, when student callers were contacting alumni from the UK, USA, Canada and South Africa.
Established in 2003, the telethon employs current Imperial students to contact alumni of the College across the world. These student callers update the alumni on life at the College, pass on news of the work of the Annual Fund and ask alumni to support the College through a charitable donation to the fund. The current campaign is the thirteenth to be run by the College. Since the campaigns began, over 38,000 alumni have been contacted, and 5,411 gifts have been made. All telethons have been operated from the ICT Helpdesk, who kindly donate their resources and space to the campaign.
“It’s a really rewarding feeling to know that we’ve managed to pass the £1 million mark in donations,” Commented student caller James Price, who is in the second year of his Medical degree. “Getting to such a significant milestone really gives you a sense of achievement, and it’s great to know we’ve managed to provide so much help for the Annual Fund’s projects!”
Donors to the Annual Fund can choose which project their gift is directed to within the fund’s priorities. Projects which currently receive support from telethon gifts include the Junior Research Fellowships, Sport Imperial and the Student Opportunities Fund scholarships. In the past, a wide range of projects across the College have received support from the Annual Fund, including the Union and Library redevelopment projects, the Reach Out Lab and Imperial racing green; much of the funding committed to these projects from the Annual Fund was raised via the telethon.
