A Legatum and Geneva Global delegation, including the president of Legatum himself, visited the Burundian NTD Control programme over two days.

The Burundian NTD Control programme is almost entirely funded by a donation from Legatum, a global investment organisation. In October 2009, a Legatum and Geneva Global delegation, including the president of Legatum himself, visited the Burundian NTD Control programme over two days.

Legatum delegateThe NTD programme coordinator and representatives of CBM escorted the visitors to witness a training session on diagnosis of the soil-transmitted helminths and schistosomiasis, in the province of Bubanza. The visitors even had a shot at identifying some of the infectious species themselves...

They also visited a local health centre and the national drug warehouse, where all the drugs against neglected tropical diseases are stored at central level.

Moreover, the delegation was received by the Ministry of Public Health, Dr E. Gikoro, with whom they discussed health-related issues and possible further founding opportunities.

 

This visit from the donor organisation was a success. It was a great opportunity for the donor representatives to acquire a first-hand impression of the work being done in country to and for the NTD team to both advocate their good work and receive recognition for it.
