Dr Mike TempletonOn Monday 22 March 2010 in Skempton Building room 301 Mike Templeton will be hosting a Recruitment Day for the next cohort of Engineering Doctorate (EngD) students (starting October 2010) for the STREAM Industrial Doctorate Centre for the UK Water Industry (www.stream-idc.net). Come along to learn more about the STREAM programme, hear about the projects on offer for this year, and meet the academic supervisors from the participating universities.


Professor Cedo Maksimovic A delegation from the University of Calabria, Italy, came on a two day visit to the Environmental and Water Resources Section at the invitation of Professor Cedo Maksimovic. The meeting was held with UWRG in order to discuss the continued cooperation in the area of Urban Drainage and Urban Flooding. Several actions were agreed upon:

  • Three members of the UWRG will deliver an invited lecture in the Summer course in Cosenza in June 2010.
  • One PhD student of the Calabria university will spend 4-6 months as an occasional student at UWRG during this academic year, Topic: Urban Flooding.
  • Joint papers to be published based on the research to be carried out in this period under supervision of Prof. C. Maksimovic.

Prof Maksimovic was invited to deliver a series of lectures at a Research Seminar on Flood Risk Management at the Centre for Flood Defence Technology, National University Daegu, South Korea. The Seminar was held on 23-25 January. 


Dr Chris Cheeseman Dr Chris Cheeseman  visited Professor Raffaele Cioffi at the University Parthenope of Naples on 15-17th February 2010 to discuss future collaboration and give an invited lecture to the Italian Ceramics Society workshop on use of wastes in geoploymers.


Professor Nigel Graham During the period, 14-17 February, Professor Nigel Graham visited the Dutch Institute for Water Education, UNESCO-IHE (http://www.unesco-ihe.org/), where he gave a course on water filtration technology to postgraduate engineers from developing countries. Professor Graham is collaborating with Dr Ghebremichael in the Department of Urban Water and Sanitation of UNESCO-IHE on a research project related to appropriate drinking water treatment technology".


Babagana MohammedCongratulations to Babagana Mohammed who successfully defended his PhD Viva on 24th Feb.  His thesis is entitled 'Beneficial Use of Treated Oil Drill Cuttings from Nigeria in Sandcrete Blocks and Geopolymer Construction Products'.  Well done again!
