CHARITIES ADVISORY TRUST: Development from the Inside
4 week Development course in South India
Development from the Inside is an innovative and unique summer course for students and graduates, providing experience and knowledge of international development from a local, grassroots perspective. Based in the award winning Green Hotel in Mysore, South India, the course covers issues including economic development, the environment, gender, social entrepreneurship and much much more.
The course offers:
• Seminars led by influential Indian activists
• Visits to local development projects
• Work placements within Indian NGOs
• Full board & accomodation at an eco-sustainable hotel
• Valuable first hand experience for your CV
• Opportunity to meet like-minded people
• A CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE THE REAL INDIA!
When does the course run?
Development from the Inside is an intensive training course held every summer. The dates for the course this year are 19th July - 15th August 2010. The programme is carefully designed to incorporate a good balance of seminars, project visits and NGO placements, with plenty of time for debrief and evaluation.
How much does it cost?
The cost of the course is £1,250 for four weeks. This covers all your accommodation and food (at the Green Hotel and on project placements), and also transport to projects. The only extra costs you are likely to incur whilst in India are for drinks and laundry, and for any shopping and sightseeing you choose to do.
How do I get there?
For flexibility you make your own travel arrangements. This enables you to explore the region before or after the programme. The nearest airport is Bangalore; you can also fly to Chennai (Madras) or Mumbai (Bombay).
How do I get a place?
Places on this course are extremely limited, and demand is very high. Interviews will be held in London (or, for those currently abroad, by phone) from March 2010.
Where will I be based?
Participants are based at the award-winning Green Hotel in twin bedded rooms. Single rooms are available at a supplementary cost. The Green Hotel is a successful model of sustainable tourism combining environmentally aware practices with equal opportunities employment policies. All profits from the Green Hotel are distributed to charitable and environmental projects in India. Mysore enjoys a moderate climate. The weather tends to be pleasantly warm and showery in July and August.
