IMPERIAL COLLEGE GRADUATE SCHOOLS: Patents and Intellectual Property Information Session - Friday 23 July 2010

European Patent Office

The Graduate Schools are pleased to host a short information event on patents and intellectual property.

The session will be delivered by Richard Absalom, Patent Examiner from the European Patent Office (EPO) in The Hague, Netherlands.  Richard's information session is designed to engage the audience with very short tasks and will (hopefully) be a lot of fun. There will also be the opportunity to win 'prizes' for intelligent and/or amusing answers to questions.

At the end of the workshop, Richard will provide information on patent examination as a potential career - there is currently a shortage of examiners with English as a mother-tongue at the EPO and the EPO needs scientists, engineers and mathematicians for a wide range of disciplines. The EPO currently employs 4500 examiners in their offices in Munich, Berlin and The Hague. A prerequisite for employment is knowledge of the three official languages; English, French and German.

See www.epo.org/about-us/jobs/vacancies/engineers-scientists.html for more details.

For more information on Patent Examining as a career see Richard's Youtube video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbLVjJd17Q8.
