Success at inaugural Sustainable Energy Futures MSc conference
MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures inaugural conference
Student led conference attracted 200 industry, policy, business and academic leaders.
Wednesday 29th September saw the inaugural Sustainable Energy Futures conference. The student-led conference provided a state-of-the-art overview of technologies ranging from solar to low carbon vehicles. The students distilled some 53 research projects into 8 themed presentations that were delivered to an audience of over 200 from government, industry and academia.
Funded by sponsorshp raised by the students, the conference was opened with a keynote speech by Jonathan Brearley, Director, Energy Strategy and Futures, Department of Energy and Climate Change. Mr Brearley discussed the government's road map to meet our tough emissions reduction targets for 2050 and reiterated that we will need skilled professionals to get there.
Speaking after the conference, Dr Andy Heyes, Director of Education at the Energy Futures Lab said, "I am enormously proud of what our students have acheived today, over the past 4 months, in addition to completing their theses, they have organised this fantastic event which offered insight and discussion on a diverse range of subjects."
The MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures is the multidisciplinary masters course run by the Energy Futures Lab. Students from a backgrounds that include physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, business, earth science and finance, undertake modules that will enable them to quantitively evaluate energy technologies whilst taking into account the policy and business implications of their choices.
