Imperial College student football team wins charity match
The IC team triumphed over Kensington and Chelsea's Police team at 3-2. A grand total of £4000 was raised for the Wolfson Rehabilitation Centre on behalf of James Stone.
The first important touch of the game was made by James Stone, son of Kensington & Chelsea's (K&C) goalkeeper Mick, who kicked off the match, reminding everyone of the real reason we were there.
In May this year, a lack of oxygen to his brain led James to have a seizure, which resulted in him sustaining moderate brain damage that affected his speech, dexterity and movement. In the months since, James has made unbelievable progress recovering from his injuries, thanks largely to the work of the staff at the Wolfson Rehabilitation Centre in Wimbledon and to show his appreciation and raise money for their work, his dad Mick decided to organise this charity football match.
The K&C team was determined not to be outplayed this time and was all over Imperial like a rash giving Imperial's defence more than a few things to think about. Both teams remained 100% committed.Full credit has to go to the Imperial players who took their chances and came back from 2-1 down to win the match with a superb winner that deserved to win any game of football.
The winner's trophy was presented to Ryan Bayliss the captain of the Imperial College team, by Supt Simon Rose.
A big thank you goes to everyone who generously donated prizes and bought tickets for the raffle and who helped out behind the scenes.Particular mention goes to PCSOs Mick Stone and Lee Overy from Kenway rd and Ryan Bayliss from Imperial College for all their hard work in arranging and organising the whole event which in the end raised a staggering £4000 for the Wolfson Rehabilitation Centre.
