Desgn London Incubator - third call

Four new start-ups enter the incubator

The third call for the Design London start-up incubator means four fledgling companies will benefit from mentoring and substantial funding

Hotting up in the incubator

9 November 2010

Four fledgling companies are set to enter the Design London Incubator, hard on the heels of award-winning predecessors who scooped two international prizes for their innovative products.

Last year the folding plug won the British Design Award and a water mist fire suppression system the Dyson Award. Design London Director, Nick Leon, who chaired the judging panel said:
"The calibre of entries was astonishingly high and it was a huge task to go from 120 ideas to the final shortlist of seven. To then come down to four winners was almost impossibly difficult and I am confident there are yet more award-winners among them."

Going forward will be a synthesizer that can bend the pitch of notes through keyboard feel, an innovative mobile anti-infection and dignity screen for hospitals, a non-marking temporary door lock and a hat design company which blends high tech engineering, architecture and cutting edge fashion.

To qualify for the incubator project, now in its third successful year, projects must include graduates from the Royal College of Art, Imperial College or its Business School.
