RWE npower - Energy Challenge 2011
What does your energy cost?

Challenging but vital climate change targets and the rising cost of energy are rarely out of the news. Both now and in the future the industry will have to face many different issues: political, economical and social.
But what can be done to tackle them? That is where you come in.
RWE npower is inviting teams of four undergraduates in their penultimate or final year of study in any degree discipline* to enter the Challenge with the support of a lecturer. Teams are asked to develop a solution to the topical question:
What does your energy cost? How can an energy company respond to the complex challenges of climate change targets, maintain a secure supply for its customers and more importantly ensure that energy bills are affordable?
It is very easy for you to enter; all you have to do is register your details and write a 500 word summary on how your team intends to approach the Challenge question. The deadline for entry is 21st January 2011, but teams are advised to pre-register their interest by 17th December 2010 by emailing energychallenge@rwenpower.com. The selected teams will then be invited to present their solution to a panel from RWE npower at one of two regional heats:
- 7th February: Dicot Power Station, Oxfordshire
- 10th February: TSG Ferrybridge, nr. Leeds
A maximum of 3 teams from each regional heat will be selected to attend the international final in London at 15th March 2011 where they will then present to the RWE npower Executive Board. The winning team will be awarded £1,250 per student and the lecturer will be awarded £5,000 for his or her department. There will also be runner up cash prizes.
The Energy Challenge is an invaluable opportunity to develop your employability skills and learn more about an exciting and fast-paced industry!
