Another MBE for Physics
David Gentry, retired Faculty Safety Manager and former member of the Physics Department has been awarded a MBE

David Gentry was a long serving member of Physics. It has been 43 years since he joined Imperial on the 26th September 1966 as an Indentured Electronic Apprentice and his retirement in September 2009.
In 1967 David joined Hep as an Electronics technician under Les Toudup They were memorable days maintaining the Bubble Chamber film scanning machines . Under Peter Dornan he enjoyed the responsibility of being closely involved in ALEPH assisting with the construction and installation of the Inner Tracking Chamber which meant that he spent a year accompanied by his family at Cern in Geneva.
In 1999 David was asked to be the acting DSO for Physics which was then a two days a month job but being such an efficient and thorough person, he persuaded the HoD that it was a full time one and in doing so became the first full time DSO at Imperial. In 2007 David became the first Faculty Safety Manager and in spite of his battles with cancer managed to do a great job chairing meetings , advising and laying down the safety policies with clarity, fairness and humour. In 2008 David was presented with the Rector’s Award for Excellence in Health and Safety which he thoroughly deserved.
David has just been awarded a MBE in recognition of his services to Science. Congratulations !
