The Conservative MP for Windsor, Adam Afriyie, was on a fact finding mission to find out more about the work of the Centre for Population Biology and its relationship as a NERC collaborative centre hosted by Imperial College. Adam had in-depth discussions with staff associates Prof Austin Burt on vector biology and Dr Andy Purvis on biodiversity. Prof Mike Hassell, Silwood Campus Dean said that the visit had gone very well. ‘He was fully engaged with the staff and students he spoke to and was very well informed’ said Andy Purvis ‘he asked some very good questions, and certainly knew his stuff’. This visit was part of the CPB initiative to engage with policy makers and increase the profile of the science done at the Centre. ‘We are keen to communicate our science to those who formulate science policy in the UK and so these visits are very important to us.’ said Glen Dawkins, CPB manager.
