Imperial top 10 in BUCS league table
We are coming to the end of another BUCS season and Imperial is currently sitting at number 10 in the Overall BUCS table, the best league position we have ever had. Well worth shouting about for a science based institution!
Our first large points haul came in November from the Fencing team at the Individual Championships, where they picked up a brilliant 180 points after Hannah Bryars came 1st in the Women’s Foil and Maiyuran Ratneswaren, Didier Nohlmans and Henry Gann came 1st, 3rd and 4th respectively in the Men’s Sabre. Let’s hope Imperial Fencing will continue to add to this points tally by finishing well at the Fencing Championships in Sheffield if they get through the last few rounds of knockouts.
We have had a fantastic couple of weeks at various BUCS Championship competitions with Rowing bringing home many points with top 5 finishes in the majority of disciplines.
- Men’s Lightweight 4x - 1st place
- Men’s 4 - 1st Place
- Men’s Lightweight 4 - 1st Place
- Men’s 4x - 2nd Place
- Women’s 2 - 2nd Place
- Men’s 8 - 2nd Place
Overall the Rowing team contributed 147 BUCS points, which is over half our current total. The next Regatta is on 30 April - 2 May 2011 and Imperial should be in contention for more top 5 finishes and many more BUCS points.
A special mention also goes out to Harriet Scott, from the Athletics club who won the 3000m at the BUCS Indoor Championships with a time of 9.20:53 which was 7 seconds faster than her competitors.
There are only 4 weeks left of BUCS league fixtures now and the championship and trophy finals are happening in Sheffield on 17 - 20 March. There are lots more points still on offer and with fencing, women’s badminton, men’s lacrosse, men’s tennis, men’s table tennis, volleyball and women’s water polo all still in the running to make it to the finals. We also have basketball men's 1st sitting at the top of their league with a possibility of promotion and rugby men’s 1st currently joint top of league 1A with only 2 more matches to play - things look promising! Our teams are also entered in snooker, orienteering, judo, climbing, golf and archery, all looking to contribute to the ever growing points tally.
We are looking to keep the points tally up and finish above 17th which is where we ended the BUCS year in 2009/10.
