MRC Centre designated a WHO collaborating centre

The MRC Centre has been officially designated a WHO Collaborating Centre (CC) for Infectious Disease Modeling.

The MRC Centre has been officially designated a WHO Collaborating Centre (CC) for Infectious Disease Modeling. Professor Neil Ferguson will be the head of the CC for Imperial with Dr. Cathy Roth as the responsible officer at WHO headquarters.

Under the terms of reference for the CC, the Centre has agreed to:

  1. Provide rapid analysis of urgent infectious disease problems, notably outbreaks and events of international concern
  2. Provide technical research capability in specific disease areas
  3. Provide training/capacity building in analysis and modelling
  4. Coordinate expertise in infectious disease modelling; and
  5. Contribute to WHO information products as indicated by WHO

Currently, the Centre is actively working with WHO in the following disease areas:

  1. Pandemic and Avian Influenza
  2. Polio 
  3. HIV and STIs
  4. Malaria
  5. Meningitis
