Congratulations to Wouter Buytaert on the birth of his son
Congratulations to Dr Wouter Buytaert and his wife on the birth of their son Mateo, born Thursday 28 April weighing in at a healthy 8lbs.
Dr Wouter Buytaert was made editor of the European Geophysical Union's Hydrology and Earth System Sciences journal, one of the leading journals in water sciences.
Dr Wouter Buytaert was elected head of the subdivision on Water Resources, Management and Control of the European Geophysical Union.
On Tuesday May 4th Prof C. Maksimovic hosted visit of the high level delegation from South Korea interested in flood research carried out with the UWRG-Urban Water Research Group EWRE Section). The members of the delegation were: Director and Deputy director of sewerage division, Ministry of the Environment, 3 - 5 Directors of sewerage division, Local governments (Busan, Daejeon, Jeju) and 2 Directors of sewerage division, K-eco (a government-affiliated organisation in environment & sewer fields).
In addition to presentation of the current research at UWRG detailed discussion was held on possible collaboration in the area of advanced modelling and flood prediction in South Korean cities.
Professor Stephen Smith has joined the Expert Panel on Water and Agriculture convened by the Council of Canadian Academies to assess the Sustainable Management of Water in the Agricultural Landscapes of Canada. The Expert Panel, chaired by Professor Howard Wheater, had its first meeting in Ottawa on 19-20 May 2011. The assessment is sponsored by The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to provide a comprehensive evaluation of what additional science is needed to better guide the sustainable management of water to address the needs of Canadian agriculture.
