Black Asian & Minority Ethnic young leaders – Gen YDL – are dreaming big dreams today, are better represented in higher education than their share of the population, and yet, find it harder to secure work after graduating and to get on and stay on the fast track leadership ladder when they do. The question is what can be done to change this?

The Young Different Leaders Development Programme 2011

This 2-day programme targets penultimate & final year BME undergraduates. The key objectives are to:

  • Equip and empower you to stand out from the fierce competition and have real impact in your career from day one
  • Develop and extend the leadership competencies and behaviours critical to your early career success
  • Increase the skills you need to make you more attractive to potential employers

Sponsored by Imperial College, this 2 day course will be held on the 20-21st June 2011 at Imperial College, 170 Queen’s Gate, London, SW7 5HF.

Delivered by facilitators from the Diversity Practice faculty and other high profile Executive Different Leaders you will learn:

  • Commercial awareness and business acumen relevant to your chosen sector
  • Employability skills for immediate impact in the workplace
  • Interpersonal skills and leadership behaviours necessary to succeed in the workplace
  • Specific skills of organisation & execution, analysis & interpretation, interacting & presenting, problem solving and decision making
  • The value added from leveraging your diversity as a strength, cultural capital and legacy
  • Collaborative team & leadership approaches
  • Organisational savvy to crack the corporate code
  • Personal impact and confidence, self awareness, emotional intelligence
  • Success orientation & attitude to excel: through vision, purpose and planning; and being focused and motivated

Gen YDL Forum:
On completing the Programme, you will also receive ongoing support in the months following the conference. Through various online channels, you will receive further webcasts and presentations to increase your learning, have access to continued mentoring support from other Different Leaders, and be able to network and share your experiences and expertise with one another

Applicants must be:
a) 18-25 years old
b) A BME student, postgraduate or Young Professional with at least an upper second degree (2.1) standard
c) Available to attend both the Development Workshops on the 20-21st June 2011
d) Complete an application form justifying why you should be selected for the programme

In total 25 participants will be selected.
