Frontrunner is a course that lets you explore leadership. As a participant you will move your understanding beyond models and theories by investigating leadership from the perspective of local leaders. You will meet current leaders across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors as they share the challenges they are facing.
Who is Frontrunner for?
Frontrunner is for university students over the age of 18 who want to improve their capacity to lead. You need to be able to demonstrate that you’ve tried leading before in any forum – at school; work; sport; a club or society; a religious group; or even with your friends.
“I was very sceptical as to what, if anything, it was possible to get out of any kind of leadership course. I was very happy to be proved wrong. The guests were all brilliant, without exception. The people I met were completely different to those I would meet in my day to day life. It seemed that so many different people got so many different things out of this. There was just so much to learn!”
Susan Nash, National Union of Students
What happens on the course?
On Frontrunner we’ll take you beyond the classroom into the local community. You’ll have the opportunity to visit local and international businesses, public sector bodies and community groups. During the four days you will:
- understand what it means to lead, using the experience of others
- improve your ability to ask questions that get you the answers you need
- test your leadership skills through applied practice
- practice working collaboratively
- learn to give and receive constructive feedback
“If you are thinking of applying for Frontrunner, I have only one word of advice: DO IT! I didn’t expect it to be so life changing, but I have met inspirational people, stretched myself, challenged my views and had a lot of fun!”
Rachel Twumasi, University of Birmingham

“Of all the courses I have been on, this was definitely the most stimulating, and came at a time in my life where I think it will have a genuine and permanent impact. It allowed a group of open-minded young people with very different backgrounds to come together and openly discuss their ideas and achievements, and therefore learn from and inspire one another.”
