Sarah Blagden to deliver the 2026 Charmian Brinson Honorary Guest Lecture

The esteemed Professor of Medical Oncology will discuss the race to prevent cancer.

We are delighted that Professor Sarah Blagden (University of Oxford) will deliver this year's Charmian Brinson Honorary Guest Lecture at the Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication (CLCC). In her talk, "Cancer, the Prequel - Busting the Big C", Sarah will describe the challenges and surprises she and her team have faced in their race to prevent cancer. 

Now in its tenth iteration, the Charmian Brinson annual lecture celebrates the work of individuals who have overcome the narrow boundaries of their discipline in an inspirational way. Imperial Horizons and I-Explore students are invited to the free lecture, alongside Imperial College London staff and members of the public.

Sarah Blagden Bio

Sarah Blagden, Professor of Experimental Oncology, leads the Oxford Clinical Trials Office (OCTO) specialising in early phase, Precision Prevention and Early Detection studies. Previously a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant at Imperial, Sarah launched Imperial's Early Phase Trial portfolio before moving to Oxford in 2015. She has been chief or principal investigator for a number of national and international clinical studies and her team's research focus is post-transcriptional gene regulation in precancer progression. Sarah recently featured in the Channel 4 documentary Cancer Detectives: Finding the Cures examining her work on a vaccine for lung cancer.
