Campus and community
The implementation of a robot cleaner to assist the cleaning team is one of several innovations being trialled by Imperial's cleaning partner Mitie.
Meet Parker, Imperial’s new robot cleaner you might spot around our South Kensington Campus.
Parker is one of several innovations being trialled by Imperial’s new cleaning partner, Mitie, and is now a permanent fixture at South Kensington. You’ll mainly see it working outdoors around the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Building, Abdus Salam Library, Sherfield Building and along the Sherfield walkway.
Powered by AI and smart sensors, Parker can recognise different types of litter, navigate busy walkways safely and clean right up to edges and in narrow spaces. Its high-efficiency design helps keep large areas clean with less energy and fewer repeat passes, supporting Imperial’s efforts to run campus more sustainably and efficiently.
If you see Parker out and about, don’t worry — it’s there to support our cleaning teams, not replace them, helping them focus on more detailed work while Parker takes care of everyday sweeping.
